A baby is born, eight years later he holds a firework for too long. People dance, kiss and vomit on the streets. Dogs tremble in bathroom corners. A planet fades into oblivion. But how much longer can this once-chaotic city of fun and freedom keep the fire going?
RIBALTA AWARD COPY: We decided to award this documentary for its ability to transform an event rooted in urban tradition into an overwhelming visual and emotional experience. Through an experimental language and a skillful use of sound, the work manages to capture the soul of Berlin and its collective energy, drawing the viewer into the explosion of lights and colors while inviting reflection on the deeper meaning of celebration and togetherness.
We chose to award this film for its ability to dig beneath the aesthetics of fireworks, revealing their nature as a form of social release. In particular, the testimony of the young protagonists allows us to understand how the noise and light of that night represent a rare opportunity to break free from the pressures of everyday life. In this way, the film transforms a collective event into an intimate story of resistance and personal liberation.
