Four spatial speculations about failed architecture by Jonas Leimer, Simge Pehlivan, Elias Roher | Philipp Jainz, Maximilian Liko | Atilla Boyan, Paul Sebasta, Abigail Troya | Andreea Avram, Johanna Maggauer

“What happens when architecture fails? When projects falter, when construction comes to a stop? What happens when development by homan hand never resumes? The end…? Or just the beginning! That’s our vision.  What if failed, bankrupt architecture becomes the fertile ground for a garden of adventure, becomes excitement of discovery in a looming jungle of half-built urban space! The spark for a different – a new kind of icon to explore! Lamarr… the future is ruin!”
imagined by: Speculative Industries of Grand Nostalgic Architectures

This project contemplates the circumstances that even crisis are rarely the catalyst for sustained change but rather just another opportunity for further speculation.
The films where developed on the basis of existing images and texts, then reimagined and brought to life with the use of AI-tools. The two shots create a contrast between urban exploration content and the aesthetic of spectacular drone footage as seen in nature documentaries, therefore showing a tension between an exaggerated promotional presentation and a staged subjective experience.

Speculating about a future without room for capitalist illusions
The dream of a house represents the ideal image of a wealthy, car-driving, heterosexual, traditional family. In a capitalist world where living space and resources are scarce, the single-family home appears as a symbol of a faded dream of individuality and self-realization. In a critical portrait, the single-family home is presented as a failed architectural typology.
